Professional guarding should be specified around the work your site needs. A staffed entrance, overnight perimeter patrol and occupied reception are different assignments. Define the location, hours, access conditions and reporting before comparing prices.

Choose the duties and posts

Identify which entrances must remain continuously staffed, where patrols are required and who authorises visitors or equipment movements. If an officer must leave a gate to check a remote area, explain how the entrance will be covered. Do not assume one post provides two simultaneous services.

ZimCos Security Ltd accepts enquiries for commercial premises, construction and energy projects. For local cover, see security guards in Watford. Our construction site security service explains gate control, changing project phases and out-of-hours protection.

Check licensing and assignment suitability

Confirm the individual licence appropriate to the work using the official SIA licence-checking service. Ask for relevant training, supervision and insurance evidence for the proposed assignment. An individual licence does not itself establish a company’s accreditation or a capability for every specialist duty.

Agree supervision, welfare and relief

State start and finish times, breaks, required relief cover, induction and welfare access. Identify the supervisor and the contact route if an officer cannot attend or a duty changes. Work on restricted energy infrastructure must follow the site’s rules and escalation arrangements.

Make reporting useful to the client

Agree what officers record, which exceptions require an immediate call and who receives routine reports. Shift handovers should carry forward unresolved incidents, access changes and expected activity. Our shift handover guide provides a practical starting point.

Combine services only where the brief needs them

A dog-and-handler team may support suitable patrol duties, with site suitability and welfare assessed first. CCTV, alarms and mobile visits have separate operating and response arrangements. Specify which elements you need and who remains responsible for each task.

Compare the full scope behind the price

Include the number of posts, booked hours, duration, travel or mobilisation, relief, reporting and any equipment. A low headline rate is not comparable if it omits required cover. Availability and start dates must be confirmed for the individual site.
