CCTV towers provide a way to position cameras where a permanent installation may be impractical. For construction sites, compounds and temporary projects, the useful question is whether the proposed system can cover the risk and support an effective response.

CCTV installation enhancing site security

Specify the view before the hardware

Identify entrances, vulnerable boundaries, plant and storage areas. Consider distance, lighting, obstructions and how the site changes as work progresses. A tower’s height or camera count alone does not establish that useful detail will be captured.

Check power and connectivity

Ask what powers the proposed equipment and what happens when that supply is interrupted. Battery, solar and other options have equipment-specific limits. Discuss expected operating conditions and maintenance rather than assuming any tower can run indefinitely without attention.

Check mobile or network connectivity at the actual position. If remote monitoring is required, agree what happens when the connection fails and who is notified.

Recording, monitoring and attendance

A recording system stores footage. Live monitoring adds people or processes to review relevant activity. Physical attendance is another service. A proposal should define all three separately where they are required.

Specify alert verification, escalation contacts, operating hours and any alarm attendance arrangement. A loudspeaker or automated alert does not itself guarantee an intruder will leave.

Information and access arrangements

Agree authorised users, recording access, retention and export procedures. The site operator should consider privacy and information-handling responsibilities during planning. Read our commercial CCTV monitoring brief for the operational questions.

What to include in a tower enquiry

  • Site postcode, plan and intended deployment dates.
  • Areas and assets needing coverage.
  • Power, connectivity and vehicle access.
  • Monitoring hours and who can authorise action.
  • Expected changes to the site layout.
  • Maintenance, relocation and removal requirements.

Confirm the equipment specification, installation date and price in the proposal. A general promise of deployment within a fixed number of hours may not account for availability, access or survey requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Can a tower replace guards?

It depends on the duties. Cameras cannot perform every access-control or on-site task. Compare the actual coverage needed.

Can I view footage remotely?

Ask for this in the specification. Access depends on the system, connection and permissions.

Discuss your site

Our CCTV towers and temporary site camera service explains the coverage, utilities and monitoring decisions needed for a quotation. Send the site postcode, plan and intended deployment period.
