A commercial alarm needs a clear response arrangement as well as suitable detection equipment. For an empty building, warehouse or construction cabin, decide who receives an activation, how it is assessed and who is authorised to act. An app notification, staffed monitoring and physical attendance are separate services.

What ZimCos alarm monitoring includes

ZimCos Security Ltd monitors alarms internally, 24 hours a day. Following a confirmed activation, our procedure includes dispatching an emergency response team and contacting the police where appropriate. The property quotation defines the monitoring, access and response arrangements included. Police attendance and arrival times are not guaranteed.

For the full installation and monitoring offer, see our Ajax alarm service for vacant commercial properties. We assess the building, available utilities and intended use before specifying equipment.

Choose the evidence needed to assess an alarm

Compatible Ajax MotionCam detectors provide photographs to help an authorised recipient assess an activation. This is different from continuous CCTV video. The selected detector, hub and communications must support the required functions. If camera coverage is also needed, agree it as a separate part of the design.

Plan for an unoccupied building

Identify entrances, internal movement routes and assets that remain on the premises. Explain who visits, how they are authorised and who tells the monitoring team about changed access. Power, signal and maintenance arrangements matter throughout the vacancy; wireless detectors do not establish that every part of a system can operate indefinitely without power.

Equipment and communications need a property-specific assessment. Existing alarm takeover or integration is considered against the actual system and condition, rather than promised for every installation.

Agree escalation before monitoring starts

  • Primary and backup contacts, with authority to make decisions.
  • Verification information available to the monitoring team.
  • Safe access and any separately agreed keyholding or attendance service.
  • How authorised visits, faults and unavailable contacts are handled.
  • Reporting, maintenance and the review process after a change.

Keep alarm codes and detailed access instructions within the agreed secure handover process. Our commercial alarm escalation guide helps organise the management brief.

Separate monitoring from property inspections

An alarm activation does not identify every maintenance issue at an empty building. Discuss vacant property inspections and protection alongside monitoring where required. Share any written insurer conditions so the proposed scope can be assessed against them.

Request a property-specific proposal

Send your property postcode, building type, expected vacancy period and existing equipment. Include power and connectivity availability and the monitoring or attendance you need. Ask for equipment, installation, recurring monitoring and attendance charges to be distinguished. Call 0204 577 0205 to discuss the requirement.
